ITR is pleased to be bringing back its One Act Play Writing Workshop which was cancelled in 2020 due to the Pandemic.

This workshop is designed to encourage participants to start or complete the writing of their one act masterpiece. The Workshop is limited to 12 participants.

There will be two workshop session:
Session 1 (Saturday, Sept 10) will consist of a series of three writing prompts and writing exercises. Thoughtful discussion of each prompt will move participants from the blank page to the first page of their new play. Over the course of the following week, each participant will write either a plot outline or the initial three or four pages of their own one act play.
Session 2 (Saturday, Sept 17) Participants will read their writing to the group and receive input on their nascent, one act plays. Further writing, reading, and development advice will be provided on a more personal level. At the end of the second session, playwrights will have a good idea of what remains to complete their plays. They will then have a month to complete the performance draft.

Each of the two writing sessions will last 5 hours - 10am to 3pm (1/2 hour for lunch, food and drinks, will be available for purchase at the venue)

Completed performance drafts will be performed at the Workshop Grand Finale – ITR’s own little One Act Play Festival. This Finale will employ local actors to perform a staged reading of each play before a public audience on the evening of Sunday, Oct. 23rd at Vibration Studios. This is intended to be a fun, improvisational evening. Casting will take place on October 19th in the evening and rehearsal times will be available on the 19th as well as the 22nd in the afternoon.

As is the case with a play festival, there will be a winner. The audience members will be invited to vote for their favourite play. The winner will be awarded a trophy and $50 toward getting a copyright on their play.

The venue for the Workshop sessions, the rehearsals and the Finale will be Vibration Studios, 5488 Main St. in Osgoode.

The cost for the workshop will be $30 per person. If you are interested in participating, please send an email to 6playwrights@gmail.com. Instructions for payment will be provided in the confirmation email.
